1910-1912 M116 Sporting Life
Hans Wagner (Pastel)

This issue featuring Pirates Hall-of-Fame great Honus Wagner is one of the most sought-after and valuable cards within the landmark M116 set. Distributed from 1910-1912 by The Sporting Life weekly newspaper, the basic set includes 288 unnumbered cards that were issued in 24 series of 12 subjects. Additionally, there are over 100 different color, back and team variation cards known. The cards from Series 1 (which includes Wagner) and Series 2 were issued with both a pastel background and a solid sky-blue background. Finally, the set employs three different back types.

Honus Wagner's 21-year career (1897-1917) spanned two centuries. Considered by many to be the greatest shortstop of all-time, Wagner won eight different National League batting titles (tied for most ever), was a World Series champion in 1909, amassed a total of 3,420 hits, and finished his career with a lifetime batting average of .328. In 1936, Wagner was one of the first five players inducted into the Hall-of-Fame.

The offered card is an absolutely stunning gem! It features four pinpoint-sharp corners, bright vibrant eggshell-white borders, a breathtaking richly colored image of Wagner, and essentially flawless surface and print quality. The light vintage-white back features a bold navy-blue advertisement for the Sporting Life newspaper. Without a doubt, this is the finest M116 Honus Wagner we've handled in many years. One of just three copies graded NM/MT 88 by SGC, with none higher.
