1911 T201 Mecca Double Folder
Johnny Evers/Frank Chance
PSA NM-MT+ 8.5

This issue featuring Cubs Hall-of-Fame infielders Frank Chance and Johnny Evers is one of 50 unnumbered cards within the T201 set. Distributed in 1911 inside packages of Mecca cigarettes, each card pictures two players from the same club. Known as "Double Folders," these cards feature an innovative fold-over design, and were one of the first issues to list player statistics on the backs of the cards. This example is one of four cards within the T201 set to picture two Hall-of-Fame players.

Second baseman Johnny Evers and first baseman Frank Chance formed two-thirds of the most famous double-play trio in baseball history. Both had superb Hall-of-Fame careers as players as well as managers. And both players were leaders on the Cubs teams that won National League championships in 1906, 1907, 1908, and 1910, and World Series championships in 1907 and 1908.

This example features smooth clean edges and outstanding corner quality. The interior surface area of both sides of the card is essentially flawless. Both of the player images are absolutely stunning, with tiny details sharply defined and deep bold coloration. The printing on the back is very clean, but a tad subdued. This is the one and only example graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA, with just one finer.
