1911 T201 Mecca Doublefolder
Sam Crawford / Ty Cobb

This issue featuring Tigers Hall-of-Famers Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford is one of 50 unnumbered cards within the T201 set. Distributed in 1911 inside packages of "Mecca" brand cigarettes, each card pictures two players from the same ball-club. Known as "Double Folders," these cards employ an innovative fold-over design, and were one of the first issues to list player statistics on the backs of the cards. This example is one of four cards within the T201 set to picture two Hall-of-Fame players.

Ty Cobb was unquestionably one of the greatest players in the history of baseball. Over a 24-year career, he established a slew of offensive records, many of which still stand today. His lifetime batting average of .367 has yet to be challenged. He amassed a total of 12 batting titles, and hit over .300 in all but one season. And, he is one of only two players to accumulate more than 4,000 career hits. Cobb's teammate, Hall-of-Fame outfielder Sam Crawford, enjoyed an outstanding 15-year career with the Tigers. One of the greatest sluggers of the dead-ball era, he was consistently among the American League leaders in hits, RBI's, extra-base hits, and slugging percentage.

This is one of just three examples graded NM/MT 88 by SGC, with just one higher. The corner quality is absolutely superb. The edges are exceptionally clean, the front and back surfaces are pristine, and the print is clean and blemish-free. The finely detailed images of Cobb and Crawford are bold and sharply impressed, while the pastel coloration of the background artwork is rich and vibrant. Outstanding visual appeal.
